Brian Charlton receives Scroll of Honour

Scroll of Honour

At the recent Sydney Branch Dance Around the World event, Brian Charlton was awarded the RSCDS Scroll of Honour for his continued contribution and commitment to the RSCDS for over 37 years.

Brian started Scottish country dancing in 1953 in Yorkshire and Scotland but didn’t rediscover dancing until 1986, after he and his wife Pat had married and settled in Sydney, Australia.

Brian’s involvement has included teaching at his local club, and workshops and schools throughout Australia; and roles on the Sydney Branch, Teacher Liaison Group, Australian Teachers’ Alliance, Winter School committees and RSCDS Headquarters committees and projects. He has made valuable contributions to improve knowledge and systematic renewal of ongoing practices. His striving has enabled teachers and dancers to have a keener appreciation of Scottish Country Dancing.

Brian has devised several collections of dances including Spring in Helensburgh and The Waratah Collection. His most popular dance Napier's Index appears in the RSCDS’ Book 45. The Mentor in Book 47 for Margaret Sim was another of Brian's dances.

Brian Charlton was awarded a RSCDS Scroll for his continued commitment to the RSCDS through teaching and administration duties for over thirty-seven years since 1987. Brian has been a wonderful exponent and ambassador for the RSCDS and we congratulate him on receiving the Scroll of Honour in recognition of this.

Brian wants to thank everyone for supporting the awarding of the Scroll. “I also thank my wife very much and, personally, I think she should have got the presentation as well.”
