Four weeks of fun at Summer School in St Andrews
August 14, 2019
It has been fantastic to see so many people of all ages and nationalities enjoying Summer School in St Andrews over the last month. It was a great success and an exciting, fun atmosphere which is a testament to all the hard work of the Directors, teaching staff, musicians and volunteers each week. Jim Stott, Summer School Director was thanked for his commitment and hard work running Summer School on the final night of social dancing at Younger Hall. He recalls his time as Summer School Director with fond memories:
“It has been a great privilege for me to run Summer School, the premier event for the RSCDS. I have had the pleasure of welcoming dancers of all ages from all over the world to St Andrews, the home of the dancing. I have tried to make it more welcoming and friendly. There is a much 'warmer' atmosphere and dancers feel more included.
The introduction of youth week has been phenomenal. More youngsters continue to attend every year. I am very proud of that. Hopefully the new structure for managing Summer School will attract more people wanting to be part of running the event. It is so rewarding to be part of this wonderful dancing community.
I hand over the post of Director to my successors and wish them all the best. Times are changing and Summer School needs to keep moving on to cope with ever-changing demands.
My final weekend at University Hall was very emotional. I leave it in good heart. Seeing all the young people in the party room was a breath of fresh air. I think things look promising for the future.”
