Isle of Wight SCD weekend
February 28, 2024
The Shanklin Hotel opened up especially for the Isle of Wight Scottish Country Dancing weekend school from 16-18th February 2024, and a very successful weekend it was with over 100 people attending. Teachers Helen Russell (a past RSCDS Chairman) and Andrew Nolan (a young Data Analyst from Edinburgh who also plays piano for SCD) were both inspiring with differing teaching styles; both challenging the dancers, who magnificently rose to the occasion.
The popular Craigellachie SCD Band from Berkshire played for the two evening dances, giving some wonderfully uplifting music and several encores. Ian with Ali on accordion and fiddle/ whistle respectively and Judith also on accordion were the musicians playing for the two classes.
People attending came from England, Wales, Scotland, France, Norway and even Canada. It was such a lovely weekend, one person said, people were so kind and friendly and it was wonderful for us to meet so many dancers from the past and present.
Don’t miss next year when it will be the same teachers and the same band! Come and be uplifted by dancing with some really good young dancers and dancing to a fabulous band. Save the date in your diary now: 14th-16th Feb 2025.
