Great Ayton Scottish Country Dance Club

Group profile

Great Ayton Dance Group is an affiliated RSCDS club serving the areas of Teesside and North Yorkshire.

The classes are held every Wednesday evening from 7:30 till 9:30 and take place at:
The Women's Institute Hall, Newton Road, Great Ayton, TS9 6DE, North Yorkshire
except for the second Wednesday in each month when they are held in the Christ Church Hall which is part of Christ Church on Guisborough Road in Great Ayton.
Classes run from September through to the following June when there is a summer break.
Club members are a friendly group of mixed ability dancers who welcome newcomers of all abilities including those with no Scottish country dancing experience. New dancers will be given instruction on the dances and will be helped with the dance steps.

The classes are currently led by instructor David Hall, (not the band leader) . David is not a qualified RSCDS dance teacher, however, he is a very experienced dancer and before the previous qualified teacher, Trevor Stephenson retired, David assisted by leading the classes when Trevor was absent. When Trevor retired, David volunteered to lead the classes so The Great Ayton Club could continue to function.
Dances include selections from the RSCDS (Royal Scottish Country Dance Society) books, and also many new ones.
David instructs the dancers with a walk through at the beginning of each dance.

The Club hosts five social dances per year, led by a musician / band.
Members from other clubs within the surrounding area come along to join in and support us.
