BRANCH CLASSES at RSCDS LOCKERBIE - 2024-25 Season
2025 :
GENERAL Class re-starts Thursday, 9th January, 2025 (Intermediate/Advanced).
Thursdays 7.30 to 9.30pm in the Guide Hut, off Victoria Park, Lockerbie.
£5.00 per session / £6.00 non-RSCDS members.

Not suitable for new beginners at this point in the season, but do get in touch !
Final General Class of the main 2024-25 season is on Thursday 29th May, when we will begin the evening at 7.30pm with our (hopefully brief) AGM (Branch members only), followed by social dancing from about 8-8.15pm (free to RSCDS members). Programme and cribsheet will be available in advance. Regular visitors welcome. Bring a small amount of snacky food to share. The evening will finish about 10.00pm.
In June and July (but not every week), there will be classes on some Thursdays, covering the dance programmes for Moffat Summer Dancing (on the 4 Thursdays in August, in Moffat Town Hall). More details nearer the time.
INTRODUCTORY/Returners Class restarted Monday 13th January, 2025, and runs until (final class) Monday 10th March, 2025. Mondays 7.00 to 9.00pm. (note earlier start time than General Class), in the Guide Hut, off Victoria Park, Lockerbie. £5.00 per session RSCDS members / £6.00 non-RSCDS members.
The following week, on Thursday 20th March, the Monday class will join the Thursday General class, starting at 7.30pm.

Band : Stuart Anderson and his SD Band. Bring and Share Buffet Supper. Raffle. Tickets £8.00, available from the above groups' classes. Suitable for dancers who started in autumn 2024.

Branch members re-started Thursday, 5th Sept, with a SGM to adopt our modernised Constitution, followed by a shorter class.
GENERAL Class re-started Thursday, 12th September, 2024 (Intermediate/Advanced).

BEGINNERS/Returners :
Block 1 (5 classes) Monday 16th September, 2024 to 14th October, 2024. 7.15 for 7.30pm - 8.30pm (1 hour). An introduction to basic SCD steps and formations, and putting these into practice in easy dances.
Block 2 (5 classes) Monday 21st October to 18th November 2024. Please note longer class time 7.15 for 7.30pm - 9.00pm (1.5 hours). More SCD steps and formations, and putting these into practice in easy dances.
Block 3 (3 weeks of classes Mon 25th Nov to 9th Dec. Please note earlier start and even longer class time 6.45 for 7.00pm - 9.00pm (2 hours), finishing with end-of-term Xmas ceilidh/party dance on Monday 16th December.

SOCIAL EVENTS SO FAR THIS SEASON
Saturday 19th October 2024 Autumn Nice and Easy Dance (southern edition) : Newbiggin Village Hall, near Penrith CA11 0HT. Band : Robert Whitehead and the Danelaw. Bring and share buffet supper. Raffle. Tickets : £8, available at the above groups’ classes, including Lockerbie. Suitable for dancers who started last season (2023-24) and upwards.
These nice and Easy Dances are one of our long-standing joint ventures with RSCDS Carlisle and Borders, Cockermouth CDC, and Penrith and Eden CDC.
We started these twice-yearly Nice and Easy Dances in 2012, in order to introduce all our beginners and newer dancers to the social dancing side of SCD, with the opportunity to meet dancers from other SCD groups and to become part of the wider SCD community. Our dances provide a relaxed and enjoyable evening, with great live bands, a straightforward programme, and a fantastic bring and share buffet supper.

What we did last year, to give you more idea of what we do :
2023-24 Season
GENERAL CLASS (Intermediate/Advanced) : weekly from September 2023 to the end of May 2024. Thursdays 7.30 to 9.30pm in the Guide Hut, off Victoria Park, Lockerbie
Our usual Nice and Easy Dances were held at Newbiggin in October 2023 (Band : Susan and Shona MacFadyen), and at Longtown in March 2024 (Band : Colin Dewar and his SDB).
In June and July 2024, Thursday classes were held to prepare members and invited visitors for the August series of Moffat Summer Dances, Moffat Town Hall on Thursday evenings : 1st, 8th, 22nd and 29th August, dancing to the music of Willie McRobert and his Scottish Dance Band.
