BRANCH CLASSES at LOCKERBIE
2024-25 Season
Branch members re-started Thursday, 5th Sept, with a SGM to adopt our modernised Constitution, followed by a shorter class.
GENERAL Class re-started Thursday, 12th September, 2024 (Intermediate/Advanced).
Thursdays 7.30 to 9.30pm in the Guide Hut, off Victoria Park, Lockerbie.
£5.00 per session / £6.00 non-RSCDS members.

Please note : this class is not suitable for Beginners/Returners.
BEGINNERS/Returners Class : all classes in the Ash Room, Lockerbie Town Hall, 7.15 for 7.30pm start. Class currently closed to new starters until further notice. Do check back later for more info.
Current Block 2 (5 classes) started Monday 21st October, running until 18th November 2024. Please note longer class time 7.15 for 7.30pm - 9.00pm (1.5 hours).
£20.00 for a block of 5 weeks, payable in advance on the first evening.

BEGINNERS/Returners : Block 1 (5 classes) started Monday 16th September, 2024, in the Ash Room, Lockerbie Town Hall, and ran to 14th October, 2024.
7.15 for 7.30pm - 8.30pm (1 hour).
£20.00 for a block of 5 weeks, payable in advance on the first evening. An introduction to basic SCD steps and formations, and putting these into practice in easy dances.

All classes start at 7.30pm prompt. Please arrive beforehand in good time to change into your dancing shoes. Halls open from 7.15pm. Hand sanitiser provided.

Saturday 19th October 2024 Autumn Nice and Easy Dance (southern edition) : Newbiggin Village Hall, near Stainton, Penrith CA11 0HT. Organised by RSCDS Carlisle and Border and RSCDS Lockerbie Branches, Cockermouth and Penrith SCD Clubs. Band : Robert Whitehead and the Danelaw. Bring and share buffet supper. Raffle. Tickets : £8, available at the above groups’ classes, including Lockerbie. Suitable for dancers who started last season (2023-24) and upwards.
Saturday, 1st March 2025. Spring 2025 Nice and Easy Dance (northern edition). 7.30pm, Longtown Community Centre, Band : Stuart Anderson and his SD Band. Bring and Share Buffet Supper. Raffle. Tickets £TBA, will be available from the above groups' classes. Suitable for dancers who started in autumn 2024.
These nice and Easy Dances are one of our long-standing joint ventures with RSCDS Carlisle and Borders, Cockermouth CDC, and Penrith and Eden CDC.
We started these twice-yearly Nice and Easy Dances in 2012, in order to introduce all our beginners and newer dancers to the social dancing side of SCD, with the opportunity to meet dancers from other SCD groups and to become part of the wider SCD community. Our dances provide a relaxed and enjoyable evening, with great live bands, a straightforward programme, and a fantastic bring and share buffet supper.
Live music, dancing, a friendly atmosphere, and food : what more could you want ?

What we did last year, to give you more idea of what we do :
2023-24 Season
GENERAL CLASS (current level is Intermediate/Advanced, with a couple of newbies - see below) : weekly from September 2023 to the end of May 2024. Thursdays 7.30 to 9.30pm in the Guide Hut, off Victoria Park, Lockerbie
Autumn Term finished on Thursday 21st December 2023.
Our class 'Xmas party dance' was held on the previous Thursday, 14th December 2023, for Branch members, regular visiting dancers, and invited guests only. Not that we wouldn't love to see you all there, but dance space in our wee hall is limited.
2024 Spring Term classes run until Thursday 30th May, 2024, which will also be our end-of-year party dance for Branch members, regular visitors, and invited guests.
Our usual Nice and Easy Dances were held at Newbiggin in October 2023 (Band : Susan and Shona MacFadyen), and at Longtown in March 2024 (Band : Colin Dewar and his SDB).
In June and July 2024, classes were held on Thursdays (usual time and place), to prepare members and invited visitors for the August series of Moffat Summer Dances, which will take place in Moffat Town Hall on Thursday evenings : 1st, 8th, 22nd and 29th August (NB, no dance on 15th), dancing to the music of Willie McRobert and his Scottish Dance Band.
