Branch profile

New Zealand Branch is the only country-wide Branch and is divided into eight geographical regions. Each region represents the RSCDS members who live within its boundaries. There are more than 650 members with over 80 clubs meeting regularly. The Branch publishes an annual magazine with contributions from all regions. During the year, members are kept informed by three newsletters (Kiwi News), as well as by occasional emails.

There is a separate group for Junior Associate Members (JAMs) which attracts younger members. Depending on demand, a JAM camp is held every two years, with medal tests held regularly. A highlight on the Branch calendar is the annual week-long Summer School taking place over New Year. Summer School is organised and run on behalf of the Branch by a different region each year. For six mornings dancers attend classes grouped by ability. In addition, there are classes for musicians and teachers, as well as teaching examinations. Evening functions include a ceilidh, a fancy-dress dance led by youth members, a traditional Hogmanay, and the President's Ball.

Throughout the year weekend schools are held by regions; Easter 2024 - a Teachers' Weekend in Wellington, King's Birthday weekend in Waikato/Bay of Plenty, and Labour weekend in Auckland/Northland. Other region events include annual dances and classes.
