St Andrews Scottish Dance Group, Canterbury

Group profile

We meet on Friday evenings from 7 to 9:45 p.m. in the main building of Canterbury College, New Dover Road, Canterbury CT1 3AJ. (See separate panel for term dates.) The fee for the evening is £4 (first session free). The College provides hand sanitiser, you are encouraged to use it between dances.

The first hour of the session is intended especially for beginners, but is by no means exclusively attended by beginners. During the hour, typically three dances are worked through in detail, with each couple first walking the dance and then dancing it to the music.

From 8 p.m. onwards the evening is for social dancing. Each dance is walked through once - sometimes twice - and then danced as a set. As the evening progresses, the dances tend to become of progressively greater difficulty, but the first dances after 8 p.m. are generally those studied in detail during the beginners' session.

There is a break at about 8:30.
