Junior Summer Camp 2023

 

Both Junior Summer Camp and Youth at Summer School are being held during Week 3 at The RSCDS Summer School in St Andrews.  From Sunday 30th July to Sunday 6th August, these classes aimed at young people run alongside the usual Summer School schedule, allowing parents and their children to attend the event together.

Junior Summer Camp

Young people aged between 8 and 11 years of age are welcome to attend. 

  • Previous dancing experience is not essential

  • Young people can either be dropped off at workshops by a parent / guardian who is attending the Adult Summer School or parents who are not attending the Adult Summer School may drop interested young people off at the workshops on a daily basis and collect them at lunch time each day

  • If a young person is resident with parent/guardian then the parent/guardian will be responsible for the young person outside of the designated workshop times

Youth Week

Designed for Young People aged between 12 and 16 years of age. 

  • Will be encouraged to join the summer workshop programme as part of the youth class

  • Young people can either be dropped off at workshops by a parent/guardian who is attending the Adult Summer School or parents who are not attending the Adult Summer School may drop interested young people off at the workshops on a daily basis and collect them at lunch time each day

  • If a young person is resident with parent/guardian then the parent/guardian will be responsible for the young person outside of the designated workshop times

 

Workshops 

  • Young People may be dropped off at workshop anytime after 9am and should be collected at 12.30pm

  • Parents/Guardians attending the Adult Summer School can drop off young people on their way to their class and collect after their class 

  • Parent/Guardians not attending Adult Summer School can drop off young people any time after 9am and collect at 12.30pm

How to book

Booking is taken through our main Summer School event page. Choose to "buy tickets", complete the attendee details on behalf of your child, select Week 3, and from the drop down menu choose Junior Summer Camp or Youth at Summer School option. In the next step you can choose accommodation preferences and then proceed with the payment as normal. Both Junior and Youth classes can be booked alongside an adult Summer School booking by adding attendees at the first step.

Junior Summer Camp in St Andrews 2023

A great opportunity to learn Scottish country dancing as well as some ceilidh dances and highland steps in this the Centenary Year of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. 

On the Tuesday evening there will be a joint Scottish Country Dance with the Teachers Association of Canada and St Andrew's Summer School in the Younger Hall, St Andrew's and all attendees at Junior Summer Camp will be able to join in this special celebration. This year will also be the 90th Anniversary of Summer School in St Andrew's.

The daily Junior Summer Camp activities will include crafts, chalk drawings outdoors, outdoor games, some challenges over the week such as creating a dance, compiling a word board, word searches and maybe even a quiz.

There will also be the opportunity to attend a beach party and on the last day there might even be an extra special surprise!

Refreshments and snacks will be provided each day between the activities.
