Virtual Teachers' Conference 2025

The 2025 Virtual Teachers' Conference will take place from 10th - 14th March.

Day One:

This year, we’re kicking off with the Teachers’ Association Canada contribution, ‘How does the music tell you?’ If you’ve ever heard someone say ‘the music will tell you’ and wondered ‘but how?’, this intriguing talk by Elke Baker into the relationship between music and movement will answer your question!

Day Two:

Today we’re treated to ‘Dizzy Dancing’, introduced by Graham Stanley of Melbourne, Australia. He discusses the modified steps and techniques developed by Stonnington Scottish Country Dancers, which help to ensure those dancers who may experience dizziness with casting, turns and other similar movements can still continue to enjoy Scottish Country Dancing.

Day Three:

For the mid-way point in the 2025 VTC, Geoffrey Selling of RSCDS Delaware Valley Branch, USA, reviews ways to use movement skill practices effectively when teaching Scottish Country Dancing. Skills exercises should allow dancers to focus on the trickier parts of a dance - discover Geoffrey’s tips for ensuring these exercises help both the teacher and the dancers to achieve a great outcome!

Day Four:

Our penultimate video comes from Teachers’ Association Scotland, presenting a recent workshop taught by David Hall which highlights how teachers can share the fundamentals of technique with any class. (This video is a class recording - if you find your sound is unclear at any point, you may wish to switch on the YouTube subtitles for additional assistance)

Day Five:

It’s the final video of the 2025 VTC! Today, we have a longer video presented by Ron Wallace, focusing on gender neutral and positional teaching techniques. A frequent discussion topic online, this has been a widely requested subject in recent teacher feedback surveys, and this video highlights how these teaching techniques have been utilised in SCD classes in different ways. The video is introduced by Deb Lees, Education and Training Committee Convenor, to set the scene for watching this presentation.
