Branch profile

The Leeds Branch celebrated its 60th anniversary in June 2022.

We are based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, but draw members from many smaller towns and villages in West and North Yorkshire such as Ilkley, Harrogate, Knaresborough and Huddersfield.

We run a range of SCD classes in Leeds and Ilkley: general classes for everyone, special beginners' classes, and a class for more experienced dancers. There are afternoon and evening classes. End of term classes often feature live music and a Faith Tea or Supper.

We also run Day Schools including an annual Musicians' Workshop and occasional Highland Workshops. In addition there is a residential weekend course in Malhamdale in the autumn.

We organise monthly Saturday evening social dances with live bands from September to June. The annual ball in November is run jointly with the York and North Humberside Branch.

In July, we host the White Rose Festival of Scottish Country Dancing, which attracts teams and individual dancers from well outside our area, at Gateways School, Harewood: whiterosefestival.uk

We are also proud of the Leeds Branch Shop which provides a valuable source of dance shoes, Scottish Dance music CDs and books of dances for dancers across the globe.

We welcome new dancers, visitors and newcomers to the area at all our friendly classes, courses and social events.
