The Thistle and Ghillies Scottish Country Dancers

Group profile

The Thistle and Ghillies group has been in existence since 2001, when a group of folks with a love of music, dancing, and Scottish culture decided it was high time for the Treasure Valley to have its own Scottish Country Dance group. Scottish Country Dancing is the ballroom dancing of Scotland - a more genteel cousin of square dance or contra dance, with a bit of fancy footwork and a wonderful history going back to the days of Bonnie Prince Charlie, and earlier! We are official affiliates of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) and are also members of the Idaho Federation of Square and Round Dance Clubs..

We currently meet on the second Monday of each month at 7 pm at Storey Park in Meridian, Idaho. No partner is necessary, and beginners are always welcome. Please wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. We tend to practice on grass, so wear whatever footwear you find comfortable for that. The traditional footwear choice for indoor Scottish Country Dancing is either pumps (similar to ballet slippers, which are a fine substitute), or ghillies (a lace-up version often worn by Highland dancers).
