Branch profile
In 2018, New Zealand Branch celebrates its 50th year as a branch of the RSCDS. We have over 700 members in ten regions of the country with 86 clubs meeting regularly. The Branch publishes an annual magazine with contributions from all the regions. During the year members are kept informed with three newsletters, Kiwi News, as well as occasional emails.
There is a separate group for Junior Associate Members (JAMs) which attracts our younger members. A JAM camp is held every two years and regular medal tests are held. A highlight on the Branch calendar is the annual week-long Summer School. For six mornings dancers attend classes grouped by ability. Evening functions include a ceilidh, a fancy dress dance led by the youth, a traditional Hogmanay, and the President's Ball. In addition there are classes for
musicians and teachers, and teaching examinations.
Throughout the year weekend schools are held by regions: Easter in Canterbury, Queen's Birthday weekend in Waikato Bay of Plenty, and Labour weekend in Auckland. Other regional events include annual dances and classes.
