Bournemouth Branch 60th Anniversary Tea Dance
December 19, 2025
Bournemouth Branch celebrated its 60th Anniversary on Saturday 22nd November 2025 when visitors from Ashill, Ashley, Bournemouth Caledonian, Bridport, The Isle of Wight, Salisbury, Ringwood, Weymouth and Winchester joined many members for a splendid afternoon in The Scottish Hall, which was almost full to capacity.
The programme reflected the past 60 years with dances popular in the 1960's up to the current RSCDS Book 54, and included "Sixth of August" devised by founder member Ron Watson many years ago to celebrate the date on which Bournemouth became a Branch of the RSCDS. The wonderful music of Chris Oxtoby and Ann Stonehouse (Strathallan) with their happy smiling faces gave us some lovely tunes as well as old favourites and certainly created a very happy atmosphere so that new dancers attending their very first Branch dance were able to relax and enjoy the sociability.
A beautiful celebration cake was made by our Chairman's wife, Sue Fraser and cut by our past Chairman and Teacher, Marilyn Watson. A very well supported raffle raised £225 in aid of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and the afternoon ended with a delicious afternoon tea provided by the committee and volunteers.
