Shaping the Future of the RSCDS-Together

RSCDS 12 Coates Crescent

I’m delighted to share some exciting news about the future of the RSCDS—news that you helped shape.

Last year, thousands of you generously took part in our survey, focus groups, and Zoom calls, offering your time, insights, and honest opinions. You told us what’s working, what’s not, and where we need to do better. You highlighted key issues, offered fresh ideas, and inspired us with your energy and passion for Scottish Country Dancing.

We’re incredibly grateful for your commitment—and we are listening.

What You Told Us

Our recent communications review confirmed many of the challenges you’ve shared:

  • 65% find the website difficult to navigate—even when you know what you're looking for.
  • For non-members, the site feels overwhelming and is often a barrier to getting involved.
  • Many struggle to book events, manage their membership, or find key information.
  • 55% of members described the Society’s image as outdated.
  • 60% of non-member dancers view the RSCDS as “exclusive” or not for them.
  • 60% of members said the membership offer isn’t clear or easy to explain.

What We’re Doing About It

Over the next six months, we’re launching a bold new phase of development—focused on the issues that matter most to you.

With strategic investment from legacy funds and full support from the Management Board, we’re moving forward with four major initiatives to modernise the RSCDS, strengthen our community, and create new opportunities.

1. Rebuilding the RSCDS Website

  • Create a more engaging, user-friendly public-facing website
  • Simplify the interface so everything is just a few clicks away
  • Remove outdated content and enhance overall usability
  • Upgrade the branch/group finder and events calendar
  • Reduce website maintenance costs by 60% (£20,000/year)

2. Replacing Our Outdated Database with a Modern CRM

  • Make it easier for branches and 12CC to manage membership
  • Empower branches with new communication tools
  • Let members manage their own preferences and data
  • Gain insights to improve how we operate
  • Integrate with the online shop to streamline event bookings

3. Refreshing the RSCDS Image

  • Challenge outdated perceptions and become more welcoming
  • Celebrate our heritage while embracing fresh ideas
  • Promote Scottish Country Dancing as fun, social, and inclusive
  • Build new partnerships with like-minded organisations

4. Strengthening the Membership Offer

  • Review our membership approach in light of our mission and charitable status
  • Refresh and clarify member benefits so they’re relevant and appealing
  • Clearly define the roles of Branches, Affiliated Groups, 12CC, and volunteers in supporting membership

What’s Next?

We’ll be sharing regular updates as the project progresses. In our next communication, we’ll outline key priorities and upcoming plans.

In the meantime, we want to keep hearing from you. Whether you have a big idea or a quick thought, your input is welcome.
