The Scottish Association of Teachers and Physical Education (SATPE) and the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) are delighted to announce that Scottish World Cup Day of Dance will take place on Friday 12th June!

Scotland play their first World Cup game for 28 years on Sunday 14th June, and we want to send positive energy and support by encouraging schools across the country to host a day of celebration using our World Cup Day of Dance pack, with traditional dances renamed after some of the heroes who got us there, and including our specially created dance: The World Cup Wheech which was devised by SATPE and Penpont Primary School in Dumfries & Galloway!

Our GOAL is to get the whole country active and dancing the ‘World Cup Wheech’ to support the team as they take on Haiti in their opening game in Boston.

On Tuesday 26th May we were lucky enough to launch the initiative at the home of Scottish Football, Hampden along with pupils from Croftfoot Primary School and Former Scotland keeper Alan Rough, who represented the country at three world cups.

The kids and Alan performed the dance pitch side ending with a rallying cry of “COME ON SCOTLAND!!” if that doesn’t motivate the Scotland Team, we don’t know what will!

Alan Rough was delighted to be involved stating “Anything that gets young people excited about Scotland, football and being active is a good thing. I’ve faced a few tricky footwork drills in my time, but learning the World Cup Wheech was a new challenge”

We think you did great Alan!
