Ashill SCD celebrates in style!
October 26, 2023
On Sunday 24 September, Horton Village Hall near Ilminster resounded to the sound of music and laughter; the first supplied by Chris and Julie Dewhurst, the Dewhurst Band and the latter from almost 50 dancers who gathered to enjoy a wonderful afternoon of dancing. We had six sets, including dancers from Ashill, Bath, Bristol, Chardstock, Exeter, Taunton, West Camel, Weymouth and Yeovil. All the dances on the programme were chosen because of the connection with people or places that have been important or influential in the last 100 years of the RSCDS and each dance was introduced with a few words about the significance of each dance.
At the interval we had a shared tea and then the sparkling wine was passed round so that we could raise our glasses to the RSCDS with a huge Celebration cake complete with logo and blue ribbon. The Hall was decorated with tartan banners and saltire balloons and everyone enjoyed a wonderful afternoon celebrating music and dance.
Organised by Anita Wilson and her Ashill Scottish Country Dancers, who have had to move from Ashill Hall nearby as the class grew and now dance in Horton Village Hall. Running from 2018 and despite Covid the class now regularly have three sets on a Tuesday evening as a Beginners Class with everyone welcome.
