A Joyful Step into Spring: Success of the RSCDS Lyon Spring Workshop

The RSCDS Lyon Branch hosted on April 11th and 12th its much-anticipated Spring Workshop, and what a resounding success it was! Held in a spirit of energy, learning, and community, the workshop brought together dancers of all levels for a weekend of Scottish country dancing filled with smiles, spirited reels, and new connections. We were thrilled to welcome dancers from across the UK, Belgium, Germany, and Paris, creating a truly international atmosphere in the heart of Lyon.

The workshop was led by the excellent Dave Hall, whose clear teaching, energy, and good humour kept everyone on their toes. Whether refining technique or diving into more challenging formations, Dave inspired both confidence and creativity in the dancers. Adding a special touch to the weekend were our brilliant Japanese musicians, pianist Akiko Kasama and violinist Kana Otake, whose vibrant music lifted every dance. On Saturday, they delighted everyone with a playful surprise — weaving the Marseillaise into a Strathspey, to much laughter and applause!

From the elegance of Strathspeys to the wild energy of Sleepy Maggie, the programme featured a rich variety of dances that sparked joy and inventiveness on the floor. Beyond the dancing, the event was also a warm reunion of familiar faces and a welcoming space for newcomers. A heartfelt thank you to the organizing team and all the volunteers who ensured the weekend ran seamlessly, with attention to every detail — from hospitality to the joyful atmosphere.

Looking ahead, excitement is already building for next year: RSCDS Lyon will be hosting both Spring Fling and Spring Fringe on April 11 and 12 2026, major international events for young dancers and dancers of all ages! These are currently being prepared with care and enthusiasm by both the Youth Committee and the Lyon Branch Committee. It promises to be a truly unforgettable celebration of dance, community, and cultural exchange.

Stay tuned for more news — and until then, keep dancing!
