Auckland Northland dancers dance to concert band

Ever danced to a 35 piece concert band?

Dancers in Auckland-Northland Region of New Zealand found it an exhilarating experience.

On the afternoon of 29th March, the Auckland Wind Orchestra, under the baton of Music Director and dancer Andrew Uren, played a concert that included six Scottish country dances among many other familiar Scottish tunes such as Scotland the Brave, and Michael Jamieson won hearts with his bagpipes solo in Highland Cathedral.

Space was clear at the front of the hall for four sets of dancers who loved the powerful sound. The musicians were also experiencing something new, and were impressed with the complexity of the dances.

Andrew, his wife Katherine, and their daughter Emma arranged the music to share the tunes and harmonies around the myriad of wind instruments, as well as to let the musicians catch their breath!
