Berkhamsted Strathspey & Reel Club’s 72nd Highland Ball

Berkhamsted Strathspey & Reel Club’s 72nd Highland Ball

More than 100 dancers enjoyed exhilarating music and a great location at Berkhamsted Strathspey & Reel Club’s 72nd Highland Ball.

More than 100 members and guests danced the night away to the lively tunes of Ewan Galloway at the club's 72nd Highland Ball on Saturday, 10 February.

Club members were delighted to be back at the traditional setting of the Great Hall of Ashlyns School, built in 1935 as part of The Thomas Coram Foundling Hospital. The oak- panelled hall adorned with tartan swags and shields remembering past club presidents created a vibrant ambiance.

The exhilarating and uplifting music of some of Scotland's top musicians with Ewan Galloway and his band of Ian Graham and Jim Nichol, accompanied by our local talent and favourite Ian Robertson on the fiddle, created an energetic atmosphere. Club President, Andrew Brown welcomed dancers to a diverse programme of 20 dances, featuring well-loved classics and two from our commemorative jubilee publications devised by club members.

The first half culminated in a rousing hoi! at the end of The Black Bear. After a delicious hot meal during the interval, the evening continued with a traditional Grand March leading in to Flight to Melbourne and the second club dance, The Foundling, devised in tribute to a past member who herself was a Thomas Coram foundling.

The club expresses its thanks to everyone who came along and invites you back to Ashlyns on 8 February 2025 for another unforgettable Highland Ball.
