Centenary Celebration
January 29, 2026
On the afternoon of 17th December 2025 about 65 current and former members of RSCDS West Renfrewshire Local Association met together to celebrate the centenary of our class exactly 100 years since the inaugural meeting. Inverclyde Provost Drew McKenzie, Rev Willi Nesbitt of St John's Scottish Episcopal Church, Mrs Joan Pow Chair of our local association, Mrs Vera McKechnie our teacher, and guests Mr & Mrs R Bain and Mr & Mrs C Sanderson all sat at our top table. A wonderfully happy afternoon commenced with a short speech from Mrs Pow who also read out a letter of congratulations from King Charles, Patron RSCDS. Provost McKenzie then gave an entertaining speech followed by Mrs Pow cutting our celebratory cake. Afternoon tea was served to everyone with plenty of time for reminiscing and catching up or to read the history of our class displayed around the walls. Later in the proceedings some class members demonstrated 'West Renfrewshire Centenary Jig' written by Mrs Vera McKechnie to celebrate this wonderful achievement. The afternoon rounded off with a couple of dances for the many who were able to join in. Mrs Shelagh Henderson, secretary of the local association gave a vote of thanks and Provost Drew McKenzie said he looked forward to the next 100 years.
