DST - Roxburgh Selkirk & Peebles Branch update

Roxburgh Selkirk & Peebles Branch recently got together to celebrate the 20th anniversary of members passing their preliminary certificate. Thirteen candidates started their training in October 2001 and would meet each Sunday at Gattonside Village Hall where tutor Marjorie Ballantyne would put them through their paces. The course lasted for five months and the candidates sat their exam on 16th and 17th March 2002, examined by Jean Yates and Elma McCausland.

To celebrate 20 years since the exams, a new dance was devised, Sundays at Gattonside, which was danced on 20th March 2022 when the reunion took place. Flowers were presented to Marjorie Ballantyne.

Encouraging young people to give Scottish country dancing a go, the Branch's Children's class started up again in February this year at Selkirk Parish Church Hall. The children were invited to dance at the Selkirk Adult Class Open Night in Victoria Hall on the 18th March which didn't give much time to practice. The children were so chuffed about this and danced their own dances to Stuart Anderson and Judith Linton’s Band. The whole night was a great success and the parents that came to watch were taken up with the dancing that some of them said “we would quite like to learn that dancing”, so you never know, it might just encourage them to join a class.
