DST - Belfast Branch celebrate 75th anniversary

RSCDS Belfast Branch

It was great to hear about Belfast Branch's recent celebrations to commemorate their 75th anniversary. Linda Harley tells us all about the weekend...

'A weekend of celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of RSCDS Belfast Branch began with a glamorous dinner, held in the Hinch Distillery.  Present and past members were welcomed by the swirl of the pipes and a special cocktail, before tucking into gin cured salmon and local roast beef. After the cake was cut by president Elizabeth Cameron MBE and vice-president Lucy Mulholland, guests were treated to a few songs from William Williamson and music from the Ewan Galloway Band.  The tunes proved impossible to resist, and a few folk kicked off their high heeled shoes to join in a lively Dashing White Sergeant.

No sore feet were in evidence on the Saturday though, as William led some very enjoyable classes, with his usual good humour and plenty of teaching points to take on board.  The evening concluded with a ball: the programme featured dances from Belfast Branch’s previous anniversary books, and dancers from Glasgow, Birmingham, Newcastle and Dublin joined local members to fill the floor and dance the night away to the wonderful live music.

Belfast Branch birthday

It also happened to be Isaac’s 13th birthday, and the star of our recent Virtual Festival video was presented with a special balloon.  Smiles on every face, and possibly a few tears of joy, as everyone joined hands for Auld Lang Syne to round off what had been a very special and memorable weekend.'
