DST - Berks, Hants & Surrey Border Branch
November 30, 2022
Berks, Hants & Surrey Border Branch recently got in touch to share their success in a recruitment drive and beginners' class
When dancing resumed after the Covid lockdowns, the numbers attending clubs and branch classes were down by 25%. The branch decided to run a recruitment drive and in August started advertising a beginners' course through the local clubs, social media, by leaflets placed in local community spaces and by submitting an article and photos promoting SCD to a free local magazine. The response has been excellent, so much so that more applied than we had room for in the hall that we had booked! We began the 10-week course in October and due to its popularity we have already half-filled a second course that will begin in January 2023.
By covering the steps and basic figures we hope to give our newcomers to SCD the confidence to participate in social dancing throughout the area, as well as share the enjoyment of Scottish country dancing and music. The response has encouraged us to consider this as an annual event. The future is starting to look brighter!
Thanks for sharing - don't forget, if you'd like to feature in the next issue of Dance Scottish Together, get in touch with Lyndsay at lyndsay.walker@rscds.org.
