DST - Budapest Scottish Dance Club
October 26, 2022
Masa and Agnes from Budapest Scottish Dance Club got in touch with a summary of their recent events.
This summer was in a way preparatory for the full-scale dance season in Budapest SCD Club (BSTK). Those who stayed in the city during the summer break danced weekly in the recreational area of Margaret Island in the centre of Budapest, having fun and recruiting new club participants.
In August the BSTK dancers performed at the Monoszló village day festival and took part in the culinary contest, getting the 2nd price. At the end of the month, Zsolt Molnar held the Budapest Summer School, presenting the material in a historical perspective, with interesting facts about dancing and music and a good choice of dance samples. Evening dances gave the opportunity to all generations of Club members to meet after a summer break.
After a 2-year covid break, the new dance season started in September with the Beginners Course with a fantastic number of participants and great enthusiasm of dancers and teaches. The beginners have already joined our Scottish táncház, a Ceilidh with Dagda band playing for the event monthly.
At the end of September, dancers from Budapest travelled to Poysdorf, Austria for the Friendship Weekend. It is the 4th time that we have had a regional dance weekend with the dancers from Vienna and Prague, this time organized by the RCDS Vienna Branch (twice in Hungary and once in the Czech Republic). It was a real friendship weekend with lots of interesting dances (musicians: Silke Grossholz and Matthias Rank, teachers: Tim Bolton-Maggs and Ramona Rank), a lot of laughter and chats. One of the most interesting activities was when Bexi, Gábor and Jan had to teach a dance in their own mother tongue. You can imagine how much fun it was when Gabor was teaching in Hungarian. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the very-well organized weekend, and we are planning to hold the next Friendship Weekend in two years in the Czech Republic.
