DST - Cockermouth finally celebrate their 60th
May 25, 2022
Club Secretary Linda McMillan sent us this report on Cockermouth Scottish Country Dancing Club's delayed celebrations for their 60th anniversary.
'Cockermouth Scottish Country Dancing Club, an RSCDS Affiliated Group in north-west Cumbria, celebrated its 60th Anniversary in 2020 and this year on 14th May, finally managed to hold the celebration Ball originally planned for two years previously!
The Club was gifted the use of a very special venue for its celebration - the family of the late Alice Spencer, who had been a member of the Club for many years, allowed us the use of their converted barn which incorporates the former Cumbria Ballroom sprung floor and it provided a magnificent setting for the occasion. We were joined by dancing friends from all over Cumbria and beyond, and with almost 100 dancers taking to the floor, enjoyed a wonderful evening of dancing to the music of George Meikle and his band.
There was plenty of opportunity for old friendships to be renewed with past members coming to spectate and enjoy the festivities. We were also delighted that William Williamson, the Society’s Chairman-Elect, joined us for the evening and proposed the toast to the continuing success of the Club.
Cockermouth SCDC runs weekly classes from September until May and holds two dances each year in May and November. Further details can be found on the Club website or from Linda McMillan, the Club Secretary, at cscdcsecretary@gmail.com.'
Congratulations on the anniversary! It's great to see the group finally got their celebration! Don't forget, if you've got similar good news stories you'd like to share, email lyndsay.walker@rscds.org and you might feature in a future Dance Scottish Together.
