DST - Scholarships
December 21, 2022
Hands up! Are you thinking of applying for a Scholarship for Spring Fling or Summer School 2023? We asked this year's Summer School recipients to tell us all about their experiences. Read just a few of their thoughts below.
"Summer school 2022 was a fantastic week full of dancing-related fun."
"I would highly recommend Summer School to anyone who Scottish country dances, regardless of their age or ability. I am very grateful for receiving an award from the Derek & Maureen Haynes Memorial Fund, and hope that the RSCDS continues its work to ensure that dancing is accessible for all."
"Being resident in beautiful St Andrews for those two weeks was a great privilege. As a PhD student, it was financial support from a Derek & Maureen Haynes Memorial Fund Scholarship that made coming to Summer School an option for me. As well as all the fun, being able to take my teaching certificate in St Andrews removed the need for hours (and the costs) of commuting to other cities to study for and take my teaching certificate, all while juggling my academic commitments. Instead, I can devote that time to planning and delivering my own classes and to using my new-found skills to the benefit my local dancing community."
"I would highly recommend this scholarship for other potential applicants. The scholarship is a huge opportunity for dancers who do not have the financial means to go to Summer School. It allowed me to improve a lot in SCD, and to meet talented dancers and teachers I would not have met otherwise."
"The scholarship was really helpful for me and allowed me to learn how to better teach and to pass on my passion for dance through teaching! I can only encourage other passionate dancers who want to pass their units to apply for this scholarship!"
