Dundee Branch Half Day School and Dance
April 29, 2026
The 21st March saw approximately 50 dancers assemble for Dundee Branch's Half Day School at the Morgan Academy, coming from Edinburgh and Kirkcaldy to Aberdeen and Perth, with one dancer visiting from San Diego! Rachel Shankland put us through our paces with various exercises as well as some 'new to us' dances including 'The Scholar's Strathspey' with a 3 couple Espagnole and 'Black Donald' with Allemande Right and Left, all accompanied by Colin Dewar on accordion. It was lovely to see so many of our branch Intermediate Dancers joining us for the afternoon, all of whom coped very well with the unfamiliar dances and formations.
A Fish and Chip shop run was done for those staying on to the evening dance where our numbers then swelled to around 70 dancers. The varied dance programme ranged from '1314' and 'The Silver Thistle', to 'The Starry Eyed Lassie' and 'Muirland Willie', all danced to great music provided by Colin Dewar's Scottish Dance Band (Colin Dewar - First Accordion, Alasdair Macleod - Second Accordion, Kevin Milne - Drums) with tea and home-made cakes restoring energy levels at the interval. Thanks to the programme deviser Jo Reid, with re-capping shared between Jo, Janet, Sig and Sue, our four successful Teaching Certificate Part 1 candidates from 2025.
