Flying Scotsman Centenary celebrations
March 1, 2023
On Friday 24th February 2023, we joined The National Railway Museum at Waverley Station in Edinburgh to celebrate the launch of the Centenary year of Flying Scotsman, the world’s most famous steam locomotive.
RSCDS dancers and musicians had the exciting privilege of performing The Flying Scotsman dance as this event, in the presence of the locomotive itself!
It was a very special morning, made even more so with the premiere of our new video, showing the truly global reach of Scottish country dancing, as RSCDS Branches and Affiliated Groups across the world filmed themselves dancing The Flying Scotsman. You can watch the video here.
Rowan, our Young Dancers mascot even made a surprise appearance as they continue their travels around the world!
We want to express our thanks to everyone involved, who helped bring this project together; dancers from South Morningside Primary School, Edinburgh Branch and Edinburgh University New Scotland Country Dance Society (and friends), musicians Ewan Galloway, Andrew Knight and Ian Graham and photographer Jon Davey.
