Glasgow Primary Schools - Day of Dance

Glasgow Day of Dance

To mark the Society’s and Glasgow Branch’s Centenary, the Lord Provost of Glasgow kindly invited the Glasgow Primary Schools Day of Dance to the Banqueting Hall of the City Chambers on 13th March 2024. The Lord Provost and William Williamson, Chair of the Society, welcomed everyone, and encouraged them to have fun – and they did!

There were up to 16 sets in the morning and afternoon sessions, dancing A Reel for Jeannie, The Waratah Weaver, Round Reel of Eight, Charlestown Chaser, Dashing White Sergeant, Flying Scotsman and Granville Market. It was amusing to ponder whether 100 years ago the then Chair of the Society would have been turning the then Lord Provost into allemande hold in Round Reel of Eight! Children, teachers, parent chaperones, Council staff and volunteers from Glasgow Branch had a great time. Hopefully seeds have been planted that will encourage them to continue enjoying the heritage and fun of Scottish country dancing.
