Glasgow Primary Schools’ Day of Dance

Glasgow Day of Dance 2025

Glasgow Primary Schools’ Day of Dance 12.03.25 in Glasgow City Chambers

This is the second year Glasgow’s Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren has kindly invited the children from Glasgow Primary Schools to hold their Day of Dance in the Banqueting Hall of the City Chambers.  This year the VIPs included the Lord Provost, Depute Lord Provost Councillor Christy Mearns, Chair Elect Dr Sebastian Wanless, Chair of Glasgow Branch Ian Johnston, Lorna Valentine Chair of the Scottish Schools Working Group and George Watt Treasurer of TAS.

After a warm welcome from the Lord Provost and Dr Sebastian Wanless, the dancing started.  This year John Carmichael had invited Ian Muir, Neil MacMillan, Alastair McCulloch and Iain Cathcart to join him – an outstanding line up of musicians.  With such great music the children (and adults) were ready to enjoy the dancing.

Glasgow Day of Dance 2025

Walter Provan was an excellent MC, giving clear instructions and making sure everything ran to time.  Some of the highlights were watching (and listening!) to over 160 children enjoying the Flying Scotsman, everyone (including the VIPs) joining in the Dashing White Sergeant and John Carmichael leading us all in singing Auld Lang Syne.

On the day 17 schools and over 300 children took part in the Day of Dance.  A special thank you to Muriel Bone for her help and also to all the dancers from Glasgow Branch who kept the children on track during the dancing.  In Glasgow we are very fortunate to have the support of the PEPASS (Physical Education and Physical Activity School Sport) team especially Kay Hamilton.  The Day of Dance has been running in a similar format since 2006 with a break from 2020-2022 due to Covid.
