Teacher Dave Davies tells us how Houston and District Branch celebrated 100 years of the RSCDS
The Houston and District Branch celebrated the RSCDS Centenary at a Ball on November 11th. Liedertafel Hall in Sealy welcomed dancers from all over Texas. Kelley Fair piped for the Grand March; Judi Nicolson (fiddle) and Kendall Rogers (keyboard) provided music that put wings on the dancers’ feet.
The 18 dance programme featured three centenary themed dances: Centenary Jig, A Hundred Years Since, and Centenary Celebrations. It included two dances from RSCDS Book 1: Duke of Perth and Flowers of Edinburgh; and a dance from Book 53: Chased Lovers. We recognized Veterans’ Day, the US equivalent of Remembrance Sunday, with Reel of the 51st and Reel of the Royal Scots.
Each attendee was given an RSCDS Centenary mini-badge. After the dancing, a catered dinner was served along with an anniversary cake made by our Chair, Marcela Diz. There was time for catching up with old friends and getting to know new ones. Then folks headed home to think about the upcoming 12th Night Ball to be held in Austin on January 6th, 2024.
