Okanagan Valley SCD groups join together for Spring Fling
April 24, 2024
On Saturday 23rd March, Kelowna and Vernon Scottish country dance groups joined the Naramata Affiliated Group for the annual 2024 Spring Fling which was held at The Okanagan Centre Hall in beautiful Lake Country, British Columbia.
Forty-six eager dancers took to the floor to enjoy a fabulous programme of reels, jigs and strathspeys. Naramata teacher Rebecca Blackhall-Peters led us, very nicely, through the programme. It was also Naramata's 20th Anniversary! The event started with Mr. John Murray piping in the dancers. A skirl of the pipes is always a great warmer-upper!
There are three SCD groups in the Okanagan Valley and every year one of the groups hosts the Spring Fling or the Fall Fling. It's like a "homecoming" twice a year! There's much chattering that goes on as dancers greet old friends and make new ones!
The Fling ended with a light supper of homemade sandwiches, scones, pastries, and baking. Not a calorie was consumed as dancers had worked hard prior to eating!
