RSCDS Chair, Gary Coull, and Chair-Elect, Sebastian Wanless, were delighted to attend a reception in Edinburgh to celebrate the birthday of HM The Emperor Naruhito of Japan.

They met Consul General, Tadashi Fujiwara; Scottish Government Minister for Business, Richard Lochhead MSP; and interacted with many representatives from a wide variety of cultural organisations.

Gary and Sebastian highlighted the sizeable Scottish country dancing community in Japan and the strong connections that brings between Scotland and Japan.

Commenting on the event Gary said:

"Sebastian and I had a wonderful evening at this special event, where we were delighted to extend our best wishes on behalf of the RSCDS for the birthday of HM The Emperor Naruhito.

"Scottish country dancing is a great example of the cultural connections between Scotland and Japan, and we were pleased to highlight the value of our dancing family in Japan.

"The event also provided us with a great opportunity to raise awareness of the RSCDS and engage with Scottish Government Minister Richard Lochhead MSP, as well as many cultural organisations in Scotland.

"Building connections with individuals and organisations beyond the RSCDS is essential for expanding our network of partners—helping Scottish country dancing grow and bringing more people onto the dance floor."
