Somerset dance weekend

Somerset dance weekend

Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th April saw dancers from as far away as Worcestershire and Surbiton, and well supported by all our local clubs, descending on Somerset for a fantastic weekend of dancing. On the Saturday night, St Michaels SCD held their Spring Dance at the Davis Hall in West Camel. We had a full hall dancing to the exuberant music of Chris and Julie Dewhurst, ably MC'd by Andrew White. The hall stage and windowsills were beautifully decorated with Spring flowers and we had a great array of bring and share food at the interval. A really enjoyable evening finishing with a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne and a Polka.

As if that wasn't enough, this was followed on the Sunday afternoon with the Ashill SCD Easter Tea Dance at Broadway VH near Ilminster. Another full hall adorned with daffodils, violas and Easter cards, this time dancing to the wonderful music of Ian and Judith Muir, who played some fantastic sets of tunes to keep us going. Somerset teachers wearing Easter Bunny ears, to everyone's amusement, recapped each dance. Club members provided a super spread of Easter goodies and treats including Simnel cakes and of course Easter biscuits and hot cross buns.

It was a truly memorable and successful weekend and thanks must go to all members of both clubs for working together to hold such a great weekend of dancing.

Both clubs warmly welcome visiting dancers so please do come and join us if you down in the West Country.
