Stafford Caledonians 70th Anniversary Ball

from R-L The Mayor of Stafford, Councillor Jenny Barron; President of Stafford and District Caledonian Society, Mrs Maureen Crombleholme and Mayors Consort, Honorary Alderman Ray Barron RSCDS

A special 70th Anniversary Ball was held on Saturday 14th February at the Peace Memorial Hall in Penkridge by members of The Stafford and District Caledonian Society.

The Caledonians were honoured that The Worshipful The Mayor of Stafford, Councillor Jenny Barron, and her Consort, Honorary Alderman Ray Barron, were able to attend. They were warmly welcomed by the Society President Mrs Maureen Cromblehholme.

The evening got off to an enthusiastic start with a spirited performance of the ceilidh dance, the Dashing White Sergeant, which Mayor Barron gladly joined in together with Society members and guests. Despite not being familiar with Scottish dances, the Mayor then joined in a couple of the more complex dances later in the evening.

A thoroughly enjoyable and fun evening was had by all with stirring music provided by

The Chris Dewhurst Scottish Country Dance Band.

The delicious buffet supper was followed by a toast to the 70th Anniversary of the Society which was founded in 1956. An exhibition of photographs showed many former members and included a framed ‘Roll of Honour’ giving the names of the seven founder members, the first President - Alistair Carrie - and 36 successive Presidents.

Here’s to the next decade of Scottish Dancing with the Stafford Caledonians!

Guests from other clubs are always welcome.
