Summer in New Zealand

New Zealand

Michael Laidlaw, Carterton SCD Club gives us an update on dancing in New Zealand.

As you may have heard on the news, the North Island of New Zealand has had an awful summer especially in the north and east, where many areas have experienced record flooding on repeated occasions. Here in inland Wairarapa, we consider ourselves very lucky not to have had such severe problems, but it has been a cooler and wetter summer than most.

The Carterton Scottish Country Club has summer dancing in members’ gardens in February and early March each year.  We normally have five sessions.  This year we managed to dance on two. In addition, we had one cool evening following a fine day, when we started dancing in Masterton, wrapped up against the cold and possible showers, (see photo).  We managed one dance in a very light shower but then the showers got heavier, forcing us to retreat indoors to enjoy an evening of good food and good company.
